PCV Presents: Virtual Tour at the Getty Museum - The Monuments Men
Another in our series of virtual interactive art programs, this one from the Getty Museum, with our docent telling us all about what is known as the "monuments men," men and women who, after World War II searched for, and found, hundreds of works of art that had been stolen by the Nazi regime and hidden during the war.
The painting shown above, Alexander the Great and Campaspe in the Studio of Apelles, by Tiepolo, stolen by the Nazis in 1941, was one of those found after the war. It was then installed at the Louvre Museum from 1947 until 1999, when it was finally returned to the heirs of the original owner. It was later sold to the Getty.
Please join us for what should be a fascinating program about war and its aftermath.
PCV Members: if you expect you will need a ride, please indicate that when you register to attend this program. Thanks.
A note about donations: While admission to this program is free, donations of any amount are very much appreciated to allow us to continue to offer free programs to our larger community.
