What are the benefits of joining Potomac Community Village?
Learning about ways to successfully age in place, reduce social isolation, and the support of a community of neighbors and friends to help you do it. We offer in-person and Zoom events with speakers, monthly lunches for members, our Coffee and Conversation gatherings, walks at area parks, group trips, and more - all of it designed to engage our brains, enable us to be independent, healthier and safer at home, to enhance our quality of life, and to create and foster new social connections.
Our typical activites include:
- monthly events with speakers
- group trips to theaters, museums, movies, concerts, etc
- car pooling arrangements
- book group, which continues to meet on Zoom, for convenience
- fitness activities
- gardening, Scrabble and other small group activities, in response to member requests
We also arrange rides to medical appointments, to PCV events and other locations if possible. We arrange for car pools to PCV events, provide computer fixes, help with your electronic devices, help with minor home repair services, provide friendly phone calls and visits as needed, and work with our Montgomery County Fire and Rescue Services to provide Home Safety Inspections, all just for our standard members. Associate membership is for those who do not reside within our 20854 boundary. They can participate in many of the same activities as standard members, but cannot receive volunteer services, such as rides and in home help.
PCV offers our members direct access to a list of neighbor-suggested contractors and vendors - carpeting, electricians, iron work, lawn services, outdoor lighting, painters, piano tuners, plumbers, small and large renovations, roofers, snow clearing and leaf raking and stone work, to name just a few. These are contractors and other vendors that our members and friends have happily used in the past few years and would suggest if a neighbor asked. We also offer access to Washington Consumers' Checkbook through our Help Desk.
(Note: Contractors and vendors on our neighbor-suggested list have NOT been vetted by Potomac Community Village. We have not determined if the same people are still at the named firms or if the firms named have been bought out by another company. Please use due diligence in evaluating any company mentioned in our neighbor-suggested list. Members who want information about any of our suggested contractors and vendors should call the PCV Help Desk at 240-221-1370.)
Membership Fees: The fee for standard members is $100 for an Individual Membership and $150 for a Household Membership. For associate members (those residing outside of our 20854 service area), the fee is $50 for an Associate Individual Membership and $75 for an Associate Household Membership.
