Film at Congregation Har Shalom: "Where Life Begins"
Film at Congregation Har Shalom: Where Life Begins
another in their monthly series of films.
An Italian film from 2022, Where Life Begins tells the story of an ultra-orthodox Jewish family from Aix-les-Bains who comes to a farm in Calabria for a brief stay every year to carry out a sacred mission: inspecting and harvesting citrons (etrogs) so they will be available for the holiday of Sukkot. At the farm, Elio, the non-Jewish farm owner, meets Esther, the rabbi’s daughter, who is tired of the constraints imposed by her religion. Through this relationship, Esther will come to understand the importance of freedom and find her path, and, in the same way, Elio will find the peace he had lost for a long time.
The film is 100 minutes long and is in French and Italian. Click here to see the trailer.
