"OUR EARTH" Book Discussion Club - in person

This month we will discuss The Nature Fix by award-winning author, Florence Williams.  Her investigation into the restorative benefits of nature draws on cutting-edge research, examining the relationship between nature and human cognition, mood, and creativity. Various projects such as those in the cypress forests in Korea, the green hills of Scotland, Singapore, and West Virginia Mountains have demonstrated that even small amounts of exposure to the natural world can have positive effects on the brain, improving creativity and longevity, and creating a healthier, happier population.

She concludes with suggestions as to how include more nature experiences in our increasingly crowded cities, suggesting a  Finnish goal of five hours a month in nature and “forest bathing” in our local parks.  Her style of writing is casual but informative and her experiences of various successes are inspiring.

To learn more about forest bathing, read this recent article from the Washington Post: How everyone can experience the magic of forest bathing

A limited number of copies of the book will be available at the Check Out Desk. Also available as an audio book and as an e-book on Hoopla.
